Jean Paul Gaultier is a man who’s always been ahead of his time. His spring/summer 2013 collection was the first I saw when it debuted in Paris this past February, and while there were some strong hits (the tuxedo-inspired pants) as well as misses (those ditsy flower dresses), overall he brought an interesting mix to the table with lots of variety, which makes me hopeful for even better things next season.
The line starts with “Le Male,” named after Jean Paul himself, who says that he wanted something fresh but classic at once – not too much makeup or crazy prints, just clean lines and sharp tailoring. The result? A pretty good start…although the show didn’t give us everything we needed.
The models wore black leather skirts paired with white shirts, long sleeves, and matching jackets. There were also two looks using pieces from last year’s line, including one jacket/dress combo that looked like a modern take on Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast At Tiffany’s. It had a tailored fit and made quite an impression.

best way I can describe it would be “fresh” – as in cool water fresh off the boat! There are no animalic notes or heavy musk smells like you get in some other fragrances of similar types. In fact there isn’t even that type of smell which could be described as woody and masculine like many scents these days. This one has a really refreshing feel to it; I find myself wanting to take deep breaths when wearing it because I’m enjoying smelling it so much (but then again I’d probably do that anyway).
It lasts quite well throughout the day, although if I had to choose between having just a little bit more longevity than usual or being able to use it during those hot summer months where perfumes seem to evaporate quicker than ever before, I’ll always go for extra longevity every time. You don’t need to apply loads of perfume either, it works perfectly fine both ways. If you’re looking for a good everyday cologne that will last most of the day, this should definitely make your list.
As far as the actual effects of this particular fragrance goes, they are pretty impressive. A lot of people complain that their skin feels oily after applying certain products, especially heavy ones such as body oils etc., however I’ve found that this doesn’t happen at all whilst wearing Cool Water by Davidoff for men. My only complaint here is that sometimes it does tend to leave behind a slight tingly feeling on my face – nothing major though. As with anything else, try out different applications until you discover what suits your skin the best.
On top of its lasting effect and nice scent, this also makes a great base layer for anyone who wants something less intense yet still powerful. Just dab a small amount under your nose and enjoy the slightly stronger version of the same fragrance, whether it be enhanced or made milder depending on how you prefer things. And yes, I usually wear foundation over everything else anyway, so adding a light layer of this underneath helps keep me looking natural rather than shiny and fake, plus adds another dimension of depth to my overall look by making my eyes appear larger and brighter.

Paco Rabanne is a French designer who has been at the forefront of men’s fashion for over forty years. His latest creation, Ultraviolet by Paco Rabanne, is an all-black leather jacket inspired by his “Eternelle” collection from 1976 to 1980 but it only really takes off when he drapes a black tank top across its chest and ties a scarf around his neck. It looks like something that should be part of a costume rather than actual clothing worn in real life. I’m not sure if this was actually made for him or just designed with his silhouette in mind because every time I see myself wearing it, my head seems too big for my body even though I know I am 5′ 8″. The bottom half of the jacket slopes down towards me, making it look as if there are two different people inside – one long and skinny on top while the other is shorter and broader below. Aside from looking odd it also makes you feel strange because once your arms come out of their sleeves they seem too short. If you wear it alone without any accessories, you’ll want to take it off fast. There isn’t much else about this outfit that appeals to me besides how well it fits my frame, so I would probably never buy it.
The cut of the jacket itself doesn’t bother me as much as the design details do. The outside seams aren’t straight, which I find annoying, especially since some of them have visible stitching running through them. When walking into the store, I felt self conscious enough to hide behind a pillar next door instead of going directly up to the counter where salespeople were waiting to help me try it on. On first glance, the material didn’t appear overly thick until I started unzipping the pockets and saw that each zippered pocket had a separate zipper (a nice touch) but then again, what man wants anything to hang loose? In addition to the regular zip closure, the main zipper goes all the way up to the collarbone. This means that it can get stuck and hard to open even if you don’t run your fingers under it because it’s stiffer than normal zippers. Other than those minor issues, it does everything right.
As far as durability goes, I’ve owned many coats that looked good during photo shoots but quickly fell apart in everyday usage. However, I’ve yet to experience such poor quality control with this coat. Even after being washed several times, the lining still feels soft and pliable. Because of this, the coat tends to wrinkle easily and you have no choice but to iron it immediately after taking it off. Also, despite having a water resistant coating, I wouldn’t recommend using this jacket in heavy rainstorms because the material gets soaked and starts to melt together. As previously mentioned, the backside of the jacket slopes downwards towards your legs when you stand upright, so if you walk with bad posture, the excess weight ends up falling onto your lower back. Lastly, although the coat supposedly closes tightly around your torso, it sometimes opens wide when you bend forward.
I thought that Ultraviolet by Paco Rabanne would appeal mostly to young adults and hipsters who enjoy vintage style mixed with modern sensibilities. After seeing it on models everywhere, however, I realized that this coat works best if paired with matching pieces…or nothing at all. Although the color scheme gives off a very retro vibe, it’s obvious that it wasn’t meant to go hand in hand with jeans and sneakers. You’d better make sure that you pair it with dark colored pants and a collared shirt otherwise you might end up turning heads wherever you go. Not to mention that you could look like a total tool wearing this outfit. So if you haven’t already done so, spend some time thinking about what kind of clothes compliments your personality.Then you can avoid wasting your money on items that simply don’t work with your wardrobe.

Upon first spritz, you’ll get an incredibly intense burst of lemony goodness with a bit of watery crispness on top. This scent reminds me vaguely of the perfume Ed Hardy by Diesel but more citric than ed hardy actually. Not bad at all! On application, however, there seems to be a slight difference between how it feels when sprayed directly onto your skin versus spraying into the air. When applied straight to the face, it almost smells too sweet/syrupy. In fact, if you were to smell it right after applying any Eau de parfum spray, you’d probably think twice about wearing it because it could easily become overwhelming. But then again, it might just suit someone who prefers a lighter fragrance. Either way though, it won’t last long once you start sweating.
While it doesn’t have much going on visually, Azzaro Aqua still manages to be pretty interesting overall. As mentioned before, it does tend to taste slightly less earthy than many other Azzaros. However, it isn’t really weak either. Instead, it simply lacks the sort of complexity found in other products. There aren’t a lot of layers here and while it can be smelled throughout the day, it never quite gets very “there” until maybe later in the evening. That said, it’s nice to know that even though you won’t find a ton of woodiness or leatheriness, you will notice them once they do show up. Also, the dry-down
is fairly short – only lasting for a few hours. You won’t need to keep re-applying during the course of the night unless you live somewhere where sweat tends to build up quickly.
I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys light yet refreshingly different fragrances. It’s great for casual occasions but if you’re looking for something stronger, perhaps consider sticking with another Azzaro instead.

The spices such as cardamom, clove bud, cinnamon stick, nutmeg, sage, and cumin add a wonderful touch of warmth. With every passing moment, the sweetness increases as it blends with the fruitier aromatic. Finally, the base contains musks, woods, amber, vanilla, and sandalwood. These components offer a soft woodiness and rich aroma that keeps you feeling calm and relaxed. Overall, this fragrance is highly recommended.
